Meet the Rothschild Giraffes

Rothschild giraffes (Giraffa camelopardalis rothschildi) are among the most endangered giraffe subspecies, with fewer than 2,000 left in the wild. They are instantly recognizable by their light, irregular spots and the absence of markings on their lower legs — as if they are wearing white socks.

At Haller Park, our giraffes live in large, safe enclosures that replicate their natural savanna environment. They feed primarily on acacia leaves, which provide them with most of their water needs, meaning they can go weeks without drinking from a pond or river.

Feeding Times and How It Works

Feeding the giraffes at Haller Park is easy, safe, and unforgettable. Visitors climb a raised wooden platform that brings them to giraffe head height, where you can offer specially prepared leafy branches.
